Barbara Syburg has a long standing heart to heart chat going on with Mother Nature. Within the conversation Barbara finds inspiration that has powered 40 years of creative reflections about the earth and its creatures. She has made a habit of changing up the mediums she records her impressions with, and has exhibited paintings, photography, art quilting and fiber art wall works. Her current body of work explores image making on the three dimensional surface of dried gourds. Barbara develops intricate surface designs with wood burning techniques, or carves and sculpts the gourds. She adds color to her dimensional imagery through the use of carefully applied ink dyes and transparent acrylic paints. The end result is paintings in-the-round that echo the endless colors and patterns of the earth, and carry the sense of timeless connection Mother Nature offers us all.
